Fundamental Research

The fundamental research of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology department is mainly translational and focuses on improving the quality of life of patients with gastrointestinal disorders. The research is directly related to one of the four clinical treatment lines namely:

  1. Inflammatory bowel disease;
  2. Oncology;
  3. Hepatology;
  4. Intestinal failure and (parenteral) nutrition;
At this moment we are focusing on the following research projects: 
  • Hepatitis;
  • Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis (IBD);
  • Different forms of tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and (pre)malign disorders like Barrett’s Esophagus and intestinal polyps;
  • Pancreatitis;
  • Polycystic liver disease (PCLD);
  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN);
