As a consequence of the extensive changes within its academic staff over the last year, the Department of Surgery is currently in the process of developing a new research focus. All research within the various sections of the Department will be incorporated in three of the Faculty Research Institutes.
Essentially, patient related research will be on ‘evidence based surgery’ in the Nijmegen Centre for Evidenced Based Practice (NCEBP). Examples are Hernia repair, Treatment of pancreatitis,Value of CT in trauma care and Quality improvement of surgery for colorectal carcinoma.
Oncology related research, both clinical and preclinical, will be in the Institute for Oncology. Examples are Liver surgery and Peritoneal carcinomatosis.
Preclinical research, with the exception of oncology related topics, will be focussed within a theme ‘regenerative surgery’ in the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS). Examples are Repair of incisional and diaphragmatic hernias and Intestinal and peritoneal wound healing.
