Donders Center for Medical Neuroscience
Our institute’s mission includes conducting interdisciplinary research of excellence at the unique interface between genetic, molecular and cellular processes, on the one hand, and clinical and system-level neuroscience, including cognitive and behavioral readouts, on the other. In doing so, we aim to have a significant impact on the prevention, diagnosis, staging and treatment of specific brain-based disorders.
Joint research themes
The Donders Institute is a cross-faculty institute and is home to a large number of dedicated researchers, all of whom share the common goal of contributing to the advancement of brain, cognitive and behavioral sciences through investigator-driven research, and of improving health, education and technology by applying advances in this field.
The research at the Donder's Institute focuses on 4 themes:
- Language and Communication
- Perception, Action and Control
- Plasticity and Memory
- Brain Networks and Neuronal Communication
A majority of the Radboudumc researchers working on the themes Alzheimer's disease, Neurodevelopement disorders, and Stress-related disorders, work together within the context of Donders Institute's Plasticity and Memory theme.
A majority of the Radboudumc researchers working on the themes Disorders of movement and Sensory disorders, work together within the context of Donders Institute's Perception, Action and Control theme.
In addition, some Radboudumc researchers work in the context of the Donders Institute’s Brain Networks and Neuronal Communication theme.
Training of PhD candidates of the five neuroscience related research themes is organized within the Donders Graduate School. The graduate school covers training at Master’s and PhD level. Over 350 PhD candidates of the Donders Institute are currently enrolled.
The graduate school offers a broad range of cognitive neuroscience courses, hands-on practical training and in-depth research experience. The program is appealing and well-structured. The graduate school has an international reputation for recruitment and training of the next generation of independent scientists and enforces policies aimed at reducing PhD graduation time in line with local, national and European guidelines.

Career Jobs and internships
The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour is a world-class research centre devoted to understanding the mechanistic underpinnings of human cognition and behavior in health and disease. The Institute is home to more than 600 researchers from 35 countries who share the common goal of contributing to the advancement of the brain-, cognitive- and behavioral sciences through investigator-driven research, and improving health, education and technology by applying advances in this field.
The Donders Institute offers ample positions for talented and ambitious new colleagues. There are frequent job openings for talented researchers, technical personnel and students alike. These positions are advertised online.
Hypatia Tenure Track Grant
A significant impact on healthcare is at the core of Radboudumc. It is, of course, far from the only institution seeking to achieve this. What sets Radboudumc apart is its level of commitment to selecting the best people and supporting them in order to achieve its vision. To demonstrate this, the medical center awards the prestigious one million Euros Hypatia Tenure Track Grant, to attract the most talented scientists.
Donders Institute welcomes students to perform internships within our institute. Many departments are very open and willing to accommodate ambitious students. Internships are not centrally organized in our institute. We recommend that you browse the research groups of the DCMN, Radboudumc/Research pages as well as Donders Institute website for interesting topics and directly contact (a limited number of) principal investigators with your resume, motivation, duration of internship and desired start date.

Update your profile
All our employees have an internal Radboudumc profile page (a profile page visible on the intranet part of www.radboudumc.nl) and can have an external Radboudumc profile page on request (a profile page visible on the internet part of www.radboudumc.nl).
An employee's intranet profile page is generated automatically and is filled with content available in our Human Resources system and our Metis data. Therefore, information such as an employee's academic title(s), position, contact options and ResearcherID will be presented automatically if available. Information such as a biography and additional functions can be added manually by an employee. An internal profile page serves as a blueprint for an external profile page.
How to update your profile(s)?
Visit our intranet and make sure to be logged in. Click on the purple dot with your initials on it (in the right top corner). You can now adjust your internal profile page using the available 'building blocks'. Information that was generated automatically can mostly be edited through e-HR (purple dot > Mijn Radboudumc > Change your personal details). For some general alterations you must contact Human Resources however. And for some research specific alterations you must contact colleagues from Metis.
Make sure to adjust your profile page in the desired language using the language switch in the right top corner of our website. For example, researchers are most prominent on the English pages of the Radboudumc website and should therefore prioritize their English profile page.
When you're satisfied with your internal profile page, you may want to create an external profile page that is publicly available. This can be done by e-mailing Postbus Web with the request to create your external profile page.
Notes: An external profile page is based on an internal profile and will be filled automatically with the information you've entered in your internal profile page. Some researchers already have an external profile page, please check this before contacting Postbus Web.
