About the event
The WSES is a unique society that brings together both some of the world’s most recognized surgeons in emergency and trauma surgery, as well as surgeons facing the challenges of acute care in developing countries. WSES truly is a worldwide society.
In the 2019 edition of our annual congress we will:
- learn from invited lectures by internationally experts
- share results of latest studies presented by young clinical and basic researchers
- discus new and update existing clinical practice guidelines
Previous editions of WSES have brought together more than 250 surgeons and other physicians (ED, ICU, Anesthesiology, PA, Nurse specialist) from over 40 countries. The pre-congress courses are particularly suitable for physicians and surgeons in training. During the meeting you will be able to interact with colleagues from all over the world at a vibrant university hospital campus, meet industry to discuss latest developments, and enjoy an exiting social program.
On behalf of the local organizing committee and the WSES board we hope to welcome you in Nijmegen, the oldest city of the Netherlands and European green capital.

The city of Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands full of history and culture. The history of Nijmegen comprises the roman era settlement, the palace of Emperor Karl the Great, and the hard-fought ‘bridge too far’ over the river Wall during World War II. The inner city is a vibrant place with plenty of gourmet restaurants and characteristic pubs.
