About Andre van der Ven

Professor van de Ven's research interest is Poverty Related Diseases, combining basic and translational studies. More specific interest is in Dengue, malaria and HIV, especially the pathology of the vascular complications.

His medical training was at the University Ghent and Antwerp (graduated with distinction). Thereafter he obtained a Diploma Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the Leopold Institute Antwerp (with Distinction). After working in Botswana as "tropical docter" for 5.5 years, he got a training in internal medicine/ infectious diseases at Radboud University Medical Centre. He finished his PhD on "Adverse reactions to cotrimoxazole in HIV infection" in 1995 cum laude. After that, he worked as lecturer for 5 years at University Hospital Maastricht and returned to Radboud University Medical Centre as head of the Nijmegen Institute for International health.

Since 2010 Professor van de Ven is head infectious diseases and professor of International Health. He is principle investigator of several large research grants (NWO-WOTRO and EC funded) focusing on establishing clinical trial sites in Tanzania and Indonesia.
