I feel that it is important to contribute to what I am part of and leave something better than the way I have found it. As co-chair of the PhD council I can facilitate communication between the PhD candidates and the management of the PhD program, on different levels within the Radboudumc. And most importantly, I can be part of the great team that makes this committee.
During my bachelor in general biology (Leiden University), I developed an interest for human and animal physiology. This prompted me to join the research master Cardiovascular Disease at the VUmc. During my internships at the Academic Medical Centre and Johnson & Johnson I studied several aspects of cardiovascular disease, with emphasis on Marfan syndrome and heart failure. Subsequently, I obtained a position as a PhD student at the Radboud Medical Centre at the department of Physiology.
Our main aim is to achieve a greater understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease. By integrating fundamental and clinical research, we obtain multifaceted knowledge of (patho)physiological processes.
