Bianca Hoeben medical specialistThe research of Bianca Hoeben has focused on characterization of head and neck tumors through PET imaging. For more personalized therapy approaches in head and neck cancer, it is important that vital tumor characteristics, such as therapy resistance mechanisms or presence and availability of therapy targets, can be evaluated before the start of treatment. This can help to allocate specific radiation-based therapy regimens. Also, with specialized PET tracers, tumor response can be assessed early during treatment, which may allow appropriate adjustments in therapy schedules. We conducted various pre-clinical and clinical imaging studies concerning characterization and quantification of hypoxia, proliferation and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in head and neck tumors.
Bianca Hoeben started her residency in Radiation Oncology in November 2007 and finished this in May 2014. She combined the residency with research that resulted in obtaining a PhD in Medical Sciences at the Radboud University Nijmegen in April 2014.The results of the various studies have been presented at national and international conferences.
