Debby Gerritsen associate professor

Debby Gerritsen is a geropsychologist and is program leader Mental Wellbeing at UKON, the University Knowledge network Of elderly care Nijmegen. Her research is about identifying problems in quality of life of and quality of care for nursing home residents, developing (multidisciplinary) interventions to address these and evaluate the effects of these interventions and their implementation. For instance, her group developed and evaluated (the implementation of) interventions for depression and apathy, for challenging behavior, and for psychotropic drugs using innovative methodology. Furthermore, her work includes the development and validation of measurement instruments for these concepts in the frail elderly nursing home population. Debby’s research target for the coming years is to incorporate resident self-management abilities for achieving and maintaining wellbeing and for adapting to changes and losses in her studies, by focusing on the joint effort of residents, formal and informal caregivers.
