Eric Barros PhD candidate

Eric Barros (1990) began his studies as a Doctor in Medicine at the School of Medicine of Universidad de Carabobo in Venezuela, during which he worked as an undergraduate intern at Ciudad Hospitalaria Enrique Tejera and at the Cellular Bioenergetics Laboratory of Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC), where he was able to work around pregnancy diseases such as preeclampsia and etiological mechanisms regarding Ca+2 ATPase and new therapeutic approaches involving magnesium gluconate. He obtained his academic degree as a Doctor in Medicine in 2013, after which he worked as a rural doctor. In 2015 he worked as a research assistant at the Cellular & Molecular Physiology Laboratory (CMPL), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, in Santiago, Chile, where he studied mechanisms involving fetoplacental vascular dysfunction using microvascular (hPMEC) and macrovascular endothelial cells (HUVEC) as a study model for gestational diabetes. In 2016 he began his PhD in Medical Sciences and is currently working in endocrine hypertension and primary aldosteronism associated to extracellular vesicles, particularly exosomes as carriers of biomarkers of the disease under the supervision of Dr. Cristian Carvajal at the Endocrinology Department, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
