Aims of this research groupOur research group aims to:
- Summarize the available evidence on diagnostic accuracy in cerebral perfusion imaging by conducting a systematic review, comparing FP-CT, CTP and MRP.
- Identify the optimal technique for intra-operative applications and image-guided interventions in the Hybrid-OR.
- Explore the feasibility, added value and cost-effectiveness of cerebral perfusion imaging in neurosurgery.
- Develop new applications for cerebral perfusion imaging in the Hybrid-OR.
Discoveries of this research groupA systematic review comparing FP-CT cerebral perfusion imaging with CTP and MRP in diagnostic accuracy showed very little evidence, mostly pilot- and feasibility studies in subjects with cerebrovascular disease.
All studies were set outside the Hybrid-OR in the angiographic room and half of the studies were conducted in animals. A few small studies with moderate quality assessments compared FP-CTP with CTP and showed high diagnostic accuracy in patients with cerebrovascular disease and good correlations between both techniques.
Research within MITeCWe explore the feasibility and diagnostic accuracy of FP-CT and MR in cerebral perfusion imaging in the Hybrid-OR. After our systematic review, we will conduct a pilot study that compares FP-CT and MR in cerebral perfusion imaging in patients scheduled for neurosurgery.
Both techniques are available at our Hybrid-OR and all neurosurgical procedures will be performed at our MITeC.
