Laurens van de Wiel MSc
About Laurens van de Wiel
Laurens van de Wiel studied computing science at at the Radboud University Nijmegen. During his studies he focussed on the areas of data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence. He wrote his master thesis titled “Differentiating Shigella from E.coli using hierarchical feature selection on MALDI-ToF MS data”, which was awarded the AIA Master Award for best master thesis in computing science of 2014. He obtained his MSc in February 2014.
Laurens continued his career at a start-up, where he created large-scale, real-time analytical software. In June 2015 he became a PHD Student at the Radboudumc in the area of bioinformatics.
Laurens is working in a joint collaboration between the department of Human Genetics, part of the Radboudumc, and the Centre for Molecular and Biomolecular Informatics (CMBI), part of the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS). In this collaboration he is working on unraveling genomic variation effects on protein structures using large scale genomic datasets.
