Open Science and open access

Open science is the practice of science in such a way that others can collaborate and contribute, where research data, lab notes and other research processes are freely available, under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the research and its underlying data and methods. Radboudumc agrees with international developments concerning open science. See the National Plan Open Science. Open Access is an important part of Open Science. Open Access of publications provides direct, free and online access to scientific publications without copyright restrictions of publishers. Open Access significantly increases the visibility of a publication. Current Radboudumc guidelines regarding Open Access publishing are in order of priority:
  1. In case you have funding for article processing charges (APC), and there is a good open access candidate journal for your paper, submit your paper to this open access journal
  2. In other cases, and for the time being, submit your paper to a classical journal that waives the APC for corresponding authors from Dutch universities (see www.openaccess.nl)
  3. If there is no good candidate journal that waives the APC, search for a good alternative open access journal (and pay the APC)
  4. If there is no good alternative open access journal, as a last option, choose a classical journal and pay APC to make your paper open access.
For future publications, make sure you include costs for APC in the budget of your grant proposals.
The UBN provides advice about open access

Career Jobs and internships

The Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS) is a leading multidisciplinary research school within the domain of molecular mechanisms of disease and particularly in the fields of molecular medicine, cell biology and translational research. The RIMLS accommodates research groups from the Radboudumc and the Faculty of Science at Radboud University.

The RIMLS offers ample positions for talented and ambitious new colleagues. There are frequent job openings for talented researchers, technical personnel and students alike. These positions are advertised on this website.

Hypatia Tenure Track Grant

A significant impact on healthcare is at the core of the Radboudumc. It is, of course, far from the only institution seeking to achieve this. What sets Radboudumc apart is its level of commitment to selecting the best people and supporting them in order to achieve its vision. To demonstrate this, the medical center awards the prestigious one million Euros Hypatia Tenure Track Grant, to attract the most talented scientists.

Internships

RIMLS welcomes students to perform internships within our institute. Many departments are very open and willing to accommodate ambitious students. Internships are not centrally organized in our institute. We recommend that you browse the Radboudumc/Research website for interesting topics and directly contact (a limited number of) principal investigators with your resume, motivation, duration of internship and desired start date.
