Radboud Institute for Molecular Life SciencesThe Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS) main aim is to achieve a greater understanding of the molecular mechanisms of disease. By integrating fundamental and clinical research, we obtain multifaceted knowledge of (patho)physiological processes. We aim to improve clinical practice and public health by:
- generating basic knowledge in the molecular medical science
- translating our gained knowledge into clinical applications, and into diagnostic, therapeutic and personalized treatment strategies
- training and exposing researchers of all levels to societal-relevant multidisciplinary research questions along the theme of understanding the molecular basis of disease.
Research domains and themesThe RIMLS accommodates research groups from the Radboudumc and Radboud University’s Faculty of Science. RIMLS aims to advance innovation in translational research, based on integrating diverse areas of scientific expertise within the molecular and medical sciences. In line with the Radboudumc's strategic vision to have a significant impact on healthcare, research is bundled into disease-oriented research themes from molecule-to-man in which we collaborate with the Radboud Institute for Health Sciences.
Societal impactIn line with the Radboudumc mission, RIMLS aims to have a significant impact on healthcare. We continuously try to bridge the gap between science and society, by, for example, being involved in the development of novel diagnostics and therapies to treat rare and common diseases. Where possible we involve patients and other stakeholders in this process. Societal impact is at the core of our ambition and our motto: Today’s molecules for Tomorrow’s medicine.
EducationThe multi-disciplinary approach to research in molecular life science is reflected in an established RIMLS Graduate School. We pride ourselves on being an international research school that offers a stimulating environment for scientists of all levels. We offer a 2-year research honours MSc degree in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease and a 4-year PhD program. In addition, the RIMLS actively participates in a post-doc platform and is committed to promoting career track models, such as the Hypatia Tenure Track.
Technological expertiseOur innovation is advanced through a number of Technology Platforms, such as microscope and in-vivo imaging, genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics. These centers are an access point for technological expertise, high-end equipment, biobanks and combinations thereof.
Open Science and open access
Open science is the practice of science in such a way that others can collaborate and contribute, where research data, lab notes and other research processes are freely available, under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the research and its underlying data and methods.read more
Open Science and open accessOpen science is the practice of science in such a way that others can collaborate and contribute, where research data, lab notes and other research processes are freely available, under terms that enable reuse, redistribution and reproduction of the research and its underlying data and methods. Radboudumc agrees with international developments concerning open science. See the National Plan Open Science. Open Access is an important part of Open Science. Open Access of publications provides direct, free and online access to scientific publications without copyright restrictions of publishers. Open Access significantly increases the visibility of a publication. Current Radboudumc guidelines regarding Open Access publishing are in order of priority:
- In case you have funding for article processing charges (APC), and there is a good open access candidate journal for your paper, submit your paper to this open access journal
- In other cases, and for the time being, submit your paper to a classical journal that waives the APC for corresponding authors from Dutch universities (see www.openaccess.nl)
- If there is no good candidate journal that waives the APC, search for a good alternative open access journal (and pay the APC)
- If there is no good alternative open access journal, as a last option, choose a classical journal and pay APC to make your paper open access.
The UBN provides advice about open access.
Support team IM for complex research ICT related questionsIM (Informatie Management) has started with a support team in the Research Tower (route 259). This support team will be available for complex questions regarding ICT issues (pilot). Feel welcome to drop by.
This new helpdesk is primarily intended for non-standard questions and solutions for research groups (for standard questions call the ICT helpdesk 15071). The support team can help you to find solutions for your ICT questions.
The team will be present at:Tuesday, 08:00 - 12:00 hrs.
Wednesday, 08:00 - 16:00 hrs.
Thursday, 08:00 - 12:00 hrs.
Location:RIMLS office, route 259, ground floor RIMLS building. The support team (Remco den Ouden, Arthur Pistorius and Michel Verbruggen) can be reached by phone on 10707 (+31 24 3610707).
