"Ischemic conditioning and exercise as treatment for cerebrovascular disease
Squeeze the arm to protect the brain?"

After 4 years of hard work, he did an outstanding job in defending his work during an engaging discussion with leaders in the field.

His work is uniquely characterised by the translational and multidisciplinary nature. Having performed studies on molecular mechanisms, epidemiological work, but also a randomised controlled trial in patients, his thesis has a strong 'from molecule to man to population' signature. Moreover, the multidisciplinary nature is reflected by the collaborations he set up with the Departments of Neurology, Geriatrics and Vascular Surgery for this work.

Following the ceremony we all enjoyed the drinks and BBQ in 'De Brouwtoren', but also enjoyed watching the movie we made for Thijs and hearing an unforgettable performance of the song 'Ik ben Thijs'.
