Department

The Department of Pulmonary Diseases consists of several outpatient clinics, nursing units, functional departments, and a rehabilitation unit, and the department operates from two locations: Radboud university medical center (Nijmegen) and Radboud university medical center Dekkerswald (Groesbeek).  Our staff work at both locations.

The more than 200 colleagues in the Department of Pulmonary Diseases—including pulmonologists, residents, nurses, nurse specialists and consultants, case managers, pulmonary function lab technicians, and outpatient clinic staff—provide effective person-centered treatment every day with a focus on collaborating and creating a good atmosphere.

The Department of Pulmonary Diseases has several focal points, including tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria. That work is now primarily performed at the Dekkerswald location, one of the two sanitariums in the Netherlands.

In addition to developing a strategic focal point of the department (person-centered care and network care), the next few years will be focused on physically integrating the Dekkerswald location within Radboud university medical center, where a separate TB unit will be built. This will be characterized by a dynamic environment with many opportunities to organize the work differently. We are a diverse and friendly team with great flexibility and collegiality that is focused on the patient and the employee.

UNITE4TB
UNITE4TB is a large international research consortium that is financed by the EU and has partners in Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. Collaboratively, a series of drug studies are being set up to combat tuberculosis. Every year, tuberculosis affects 10 million people, of whom more than 1.5 million die. Radboud university medical center is the coordinating body for UNITE4TB.
