Job description

We are looking for a postdoc bioinformatics who wants to work in a challenging environment, characterized by inter-disciplinary research and innovation, high dynamics, and a patient-oriented drive. Will you join our ambitious team?

Inherited metabolic disorders are severe diseases that often present in young children. Although limited, an increasing number of therapeutic strategies is coming available:

  • To monitor the effect of treatment, we develop omics-based biomarkers in patient blood cells and plasma.
  • To better judge the added value of such data for the patient, bioinformatics approaches are important for data interpretation.
You will perform research on data processing and analysis of mass spectrometry-based omics data coming from metabolomics and glycoproteomics measurements. This includes workflow implementation, chemometric analysis and generation of a prototype reference patient database. The work is performed together with laboratory specialists, laboratory technicians and a senior bio-informatician.

Department

The Department of Human Genetics is one of the largest and most innovative human genetics departments in Europe. We currently employ more than 400 people, who work in three divisions, Genome Research, Genome Diagnostics, and Clinical Genetics. The Genome Diagnostics division is one of the largest laboratories with >150 employees who work under the umbrella of different theme groups.

You will be embedded in a young team of bioinformaticians and programmers responsible for the development of novel technologies for patient diagnostics and translational research. In this role you will be working in close collaboration with the Translational Metabolic Laboratory (TML) to improve the diagnosis of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEMs).

Within TML, we are innovating our diagnostic processes by implementing holistic approaches like metabolomics, proteomics and glycomics, including the development of new computational approaches to process and interpret untargeted high resolution mass spectrometry data. Challenges lie in the translation of big data to a clinically valuable results for individual patients.

Together, we are one of the leading diagnostic laboratories in Europe due to the high degree of innovation and rapid uptake of novel technologies.
