Job description

We are looking for a PhD candidate to study how brain maturation underlies the development of cognitive ability in childhood. The core interest is how differences and changes in brain structure (white matter microstructure and grey matter morphology) affect differences and fluctuation in cognitive performance, with a special interest in fluid intelligence and working memory. Will you join us?

The majority of the work as a PhD candidate will be centred on existing datasets such as ABCD and international collaborations (Lifebrain), but you may also be part of large collaborative projects to collect new data. Under the supervision of the PI (Rogier Kievit), you will be responsible for all aspects of the research projects, including defining the direction of the work, analysing the data, preparing the work for publication and disseminating the results at meetings.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Manage and clean large datasets prior to analysis.
  • Model longitudinal changes in cognitive and brain development, and how they interact.
  • Collect behavioural and imaging data.
  • Work in collaboration with others to achieve joint research projects.
  • Prepare the research for publication.
  • Present their work at seminars and at external meetings.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the field, proposing or implementing changes of direction as necessary.
