Put on a lab coat, take a 'cellfie' of your own cells, and examine a frikandel through a microscope in our lab, where we reveal an invisible world. Learn all about poop during our family lecture, presented by the winners of the Klokhuis Science Prize. Radboudumc will be at the Kidsplein during the Vierdaagsefeesten, offering activities for children and young people all week long.
During the Vierdaagsefeesten, from Saturday, July 12 through Thursday, July 17, the Mariënburgplein in Nijmegen will once again be transformed into a Kidsplein. With science and experiments in the Kids lab, music and performances on the Kids stage, and sports and gaming for young people later in the week. The full Kidsplein program can be found here.
Science and experiments in the Kids lab
The Kids lab is the place where curious children aged 6–12 can dive into science, research, innovation, and technology. Radboudumc will be there on Sunday, July 13 and Monday, July 14, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with the lab “See the Invisible.” We’ll take you into a world so small that it’s invisible to the naked eye. So grab a pipette and see if your saliva can trigger a blue color reaction!
Music and stories on the Kids stage
On the Kids stage, the Gelderland South Library, LUX, House of Nijmegen History, and the Nijmegen Regional Archive present a varied program. Listen to stories, come dance, and enjoy the Mad Science Show and magic show. On Sunday, July 13 at 1:45 PM, Radboudumc will present the family lecture 'The Poop Quarter', hosted by the winners of the Klokhuis Science Prize: Marjolijn Duijvestein and Lotte Hazeleger.
Sports and gaming at the youth square
On Thursday, HAN University of Applied Sciences and football club NEC will host a sporty program featuring exergaming, cycling, and goal scoring.
A collaboration of Nijmegen organizations
The programming at Mariënburgplein is a collaboration between the Municipality of Nijmegen, Gelderland South Library, LUX, Radboudumc, Radboud University, HAN University of Applied Sciences, NXP, NEC, and GezondRijk Nijmegen. Together, they offer an extensive program in the fields of education, art, culture, history, innovation, research, science, and sports. These organizations encourage children and young people to engage, learn, discover, and experience at the Kidsplein and youth square — and show Nijmegen as a city full of Health & High Tech.
