Marc Vandemeulebroecke, an expert in quantitative methods and drug development, joins Radboud university medical center as a visiting professor. His extensive experience will enhance Radboudumc's clinical research, particularly in rare diseases. Vandemeulebroecke will also contribute to advanced teaching and the dissemination of research findings.
Marc Vandemeulebroecke is a quantitative methods thought leader with over 20 years of experience in drug development. Trained as mathematician, statistician and pharmacometrician, he currently heads the Statistical Innovation group at the pharmaceutical company UCB. Throughout his career in the pharmaceutical industry, Vandemeulebroecke has engaged in methodological research, scientific teaching and academic collaborations and supported development and approval of numerous new medicines.
Marc Vandemeulebroecke adds a strong drug development perspective to the current IQ Health Biostatistics team, that has a strong research portfolio on innovative methods and their implementation in clinical research for drug development and regulatory science. Vandemeulebroecke’s expertise will benefit Radboudumc in translating basic research findings into clinical practice. It aligns well with Radboudumc’s orientation on rare diseases, as Marc Vandemeulebroecke has been one of the key industry collaborators to help obtain the INVENTS project (HORIZON-HLTH-2023-IND-06). This project aims to innovate the use of advanced modeling to improve design and value of clinical trials in rare diseases and pediatrics.
As part of his visiting professorship, Marc Vandemeulebroecke will contribute to the INVENTS project, and will support dissemination and implementation of research results within Radboudumc, especially for academic drug development for rare diseases. He will also engage in advanced (MSc) courses related to his field of expertise. As Vandemeulebroecke puts it: ‘I look forward very much to contributing to the success of the great IQ Health team at Radboudumc. I am a strong advocate for collaboration and exchange between industry and academia, and this engagement will allow me to pursue this mission even further. I am very grateful for this opportunity.’
Dr. Marc Vandemeulebroecke was appointed visiting professor for three years, from 01-01-2025 to 31-12-2027.
