Radboudumc-researcher Wolfram Höps has been awarded a Veni grant. The funding will enable him to further develop his independent research line over the next three years. His research focuses on a new analysis method for finding hidden DNA mutations.

Rare diseases affect over 300 million people worldwide, but the genetic cause is unknown for most patients, prohibiting effective treatment. The study of Höps uses an advanced DNA analysis method, de novo assembly, to uncover hidden mutations that standard tests miss. By studying thousands of rare-disease patients with this method, this work will improve our understanding of complex genetic changes and help provide better diagnoses in the future.

Talent Programme

The Veni grant is part of the NWO Talent Programme. It is a personal research grant worth up to €320,000 and awarded to recently graduated researchers who have demonstrated outstanding academic talent and show exceptional promise for conducting independent scientific research. The grant is intended to support innovative research projects and to help researchers develop their careers as independent scientists.
