The FDI World Dental Federation, the NCD Alliance, and the World Health Organization organized a joint session in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on 7 September as part of their ongoing collaboration to address oral and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The session titled "Curbing the sugar rush: Tackling oral disease and other NCDs through a unified approach", focused on the alarming escalation of global sugar consumption. During this session, an international panel of experts discussed strategies to combat this global health threat through cost-effective interventions and preventive measures. Stefan Listl (RIHS and, among others, member of the FDI Vision 2020 Think Tank) spoke about the taxation of sugar-rich foods and drinks, transparent labeling of foods and drinks, as well as broader programs for public health and health promotion. Reducing the daily intake of added sugars, one of the main causes of caries, can improve population oral health and help reduce the incidence of other non-communicable diseases.Stefan Listl is member of theme Healthcare improvement science.
