NWO will soon start a funding round for the programme Dutch National Research Agenda on Thursday 24 May. Investing in innovative and societally relevant research via the 25 routes of the Dutch National Research Agenda will enable knowledge to be developed for scientific breakthroughs and for societal issues. The research programme will cover all disciplines and is aimed at the entire chain of fundamental, applied and practice- oriented research.

The programme will encourage the formation of broadly composed consortia for a period of several years that will develop knowledge via the 25 routes of the Dutch National Research Agenda. Proposals from this programme will have a higher chance of being awarded funding if researchers at universities collaborate with partners from the public knowledge chain and with societal partners, from the public and semi-public sectors, and industry.

Budget

The available budget from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science is 70 M€ in 2018, 108 M€ in 2019, and 130 M€ in 2020. These funds are intended for fundamental research and for applied and practice-oriented research to cover the entire knowledge chain

Timetable

During a festive meeting at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam on 8 May, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science announced Thursday 24 May as the exact date on which the funding round for the programme will be launched. The funding round will have a pre-proposal and full proposal phase. The deadline for submitting pre-proposals will be after the summer and for full proposals at the end of the year. A second funding round is expected to take place in the spring of 2019.
