21 March 2018

Paul Janssen Futurelab Leiden in collaboration with ZonMw organises the blended course (online + on-campus) for graduated translational and clinical researchers with several years of working experience in industry or academia.

As a result of the large number of applicants for the online course in March, we will start a new edition of the online course on 9 April.

The blended course consists of 3 sections: an online course, an on-campus course and an on-campus extended course. The online course of focusses on the Question-Based Clinical Development approach. Using this methodology you can define the most optimal developmental program for your novel medical intervention before starting the development. You will also work on teaching cases based on clinical studies and gain insights into the practical aspects of this methodology.

In the on-campus course you will gain hands-on experience by working in small interdisciplinary teams on assignments that are based on Clinical Development programs from industry. Corporate experts will be present and provide insight in the decision-making process in industry during the development of the medical interventions. The on-campus course is 4 days and will be held from 4-7 June in the castle Oud Poelgeest (nearby Leiden).

Lastly, in the on-campus extended course you will develop your own clinical trial with the support of an experienced mentor. Participants working in a Dutch research organisation (University, University Medical Centre, etc.) can win a ZonMw grant of € 500,000 for the best clinical protocol/research file with a licensed medical product. This part of the blended course lasts 5 days and will be held on 8 and 11-14 June following the on-campus course. The venue is the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) in Leiden Bio Science Park.

In addition, scholarships are available for course participants working in a Dutch University Medical Centre or NKI/AVL.
