The fellowship enables talented researchers to gain experience at a university or institute outside the Netherlands. It will finance the costs of travel, accommodation and living expenses incurred abroad.
Every candidate is required to be nominated by two professors at Dutch universities or research institutes. If you would like to nominate a candidate, please send a letter of recommendation before 1 May 2019. Further details of the application procedure can be found on the website.

The Niels Stensen Fellowship Committee supports young postdoctoral researchers with outstanding research and knowledge transfer skills and a high level of social responsibility. They welcome academics from all disciplines.

Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- They received or will receive their PhD. from a Dutch university in the period 15 June 2018 to 15 June 2020 (final approval of their thesis must be granted no later than 31 December 2019).
- Candidates must be socially committed and must demonstrate this in a paper that describes how their research relates to society.
- Their research must be carried out at a reputable university or institute abroad, where the candidate has not conducted research or studied before.
- Their research project is to start between 1 January 2020 and 1 September 2020.
