Deep learning has become a very powerful technique to automatically analyze images. The Dutch Technology Foundation STW has awarded a consortium of five academic groups and seven companies a grant of 4.6 million euro to apply deep learning to medical image analysis.

The consortium is led by prof. Bram van Ginneken, chair of the Diagnostic Image Analysis Group of Radboudumc. Two Radboudumc spin-off companies, ScreenPoint Medical and Thirona, participate in the consortium. The research in Nijmegen will focus on automatic interpretation of chest radiographs, mammograms, retinal images and chest CT scans.
