About the research
Alcohol use disorder can lead to (physical) health issues and troubles in daily life. Good
treatment options are very important. At this moment, not everybody benefits from
current treatment strategies. This could partially be explained by the high prevalence of
other psychiatric disorders within these patients, such as depression or ADHD. When
considering treatment options, this co-occurring psychopathology should be taken into
account.
It is unknown how alcohol use disorder, depression and ADHD influence the brain. Which
is why this study was set up. We will investigate the brains of different groups with alcohol
use disorder and with/without depression or ADHD. With our newly collected information,
we hope to aid health care providers in providing treatment options suited better to
specific sets of complaints.
For whom?
- People with alcohol use disorder as their primary diagnosis
- 3-12 weeks abstinence during study visit
- Between 18-65 years old
- Fluent Dutch speaker
