In 1998 Joanne de Hullu (JA) finished her training as gynecologist in Catharina Hospital Eindhoven and UMCG, Groningen. In July 2003 she moved to Nijmegen to become staffmember gynecologic oncology at the Radboudumc. Since 2011 Joanne is associate professor in gynecologic oncology.

In 1998 Joanne de Hullu (JA) finished her training as gynecologist in Catharina Hospital Eindhoven and UMCG, Groningen. Afterwards she followed a fellowship gynecologic oncology in UMCG and Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, Australia. In Groningen she became staffmember and defended her thesis at 17th of June 2002: “Innovations in treatment of vulvar cancer”. In July 2003 she moved to Nijmegen to become staffmember gynecologic oncology at the Radboudumc. She started a multidisciplinary vulvar clinic and a vulva-research group that resulted in 6 theses until now. The Radboud center for vulvar (pre) malignancies is recognized as a center of expertise. She participates in the family cancer clinic and in 2011 she started a research-group on the prevention of ovarian cancer, resulting in two theses. Since 2011 Joanne is associate professor in gynecologic oncology. In 2014 the national TUBA-study (role of salpingectomy as prophylactic surgery for ovarian cancer) was started which was funded by Dutch Cancer Society. She was one of the first Principal Clinicians at the Radboudumc and was successful in implementation of innovative projects within the protection of clinical trials (TUBA study, Paget trial). She is PI of several regional and national studies in collaboration with other (inter)national oncology centers. Joanne is member of the patient advisory board of the theme “women’s cancer”. The aim of this board is to involve patients in preparing, designing and evaluating researchproposals. Main focus of her research:
  • oncogenesis of vulvar (pre)malignancies- prevention of HPV related (pre)malignancies in high risk women
  • Imiquimod in vulvar morbus Paget (national Paget trial)
  • improving quality of life in vulvar cancer patients (national MAMBO studies)
  • patient involvement
  • role of prophylactic salpingectomy in BRCA1/2 carriers to prevent overian cancer
  • side effects of risk reducing salpingo-oophorectomy in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers
  • role of salpingectomy in prevention of ovarian cancer in the general population (STOPOVCA study)

Personal prizes & awards national & international

  • 2012: price for best vulvar clinic, awarded by the patient support group "lichen sclerosus"
