Thom Bitter started studying mechanical engineering in 2004 at the “Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen”. After Graduation in 2008 he continued to do a master in mechanical engineering at the University of Twente in Enschede. For his Master assignment he did an internship at the Orthopaedic Research laboratory, where he graduated with a thesis titled “A subject specific material model for human knee ligaments”.After graduation in 2012 he started a PhD at the orthopaedic research laboratory studying wear at the modular interface in total hip arthroplasties. In 2018 he successfully defended his thesis titled “A Finite Element Approach for Wear Prediction at the Taper Junction in Modular Total Hip Arthroplasty”.
