Leo's area of expertise was biogenesis of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system, in particular characterizing the regulation of the assembly of OXPHOS complex I and OXPHOS supercomplexes and the factors involved herein.

With great sorrow we mourn the premature death of our highly appreciated colleague and researcher par excellence Leo Nijtmans, who passed away this week.
