Wim Schreurs has been appointed full Professor (by special appointment) in the National Registration of Orthopaedic Implants and Operational Transactions at Radboud University/Radboud university medical center with effect from 1 January 2019.

This special chair is an initiative of the Netherlands Orthopaedic Association (NOV) with the aim of paying more attention to the improvement of the quality, safety and efficiency of the use of orthopaedic implants in education and research. It is also the first and only chair in this field in the Netherlands.

Wim Schreurs is an orthopaedic surgeon at Radboud university medical center. He specialises in joint replacement surgery for young patients and revision surgery for failed hip arthroplasties. He has a large orthopaedic network both inside and outside the Netherlands. He was chairman of the European Hip Society from 2016 to 2018. In combination with a clear vision on increasing the support for the national registration of orthopaedic implants and surgical operations, this makes Schreurs the ideal candidate for this teaching and research remit.

Wim Schreurs (1957) studied Medicine at Radboud University and passed his doctor's exam in 1988. In 1988 he also completed the American medical exam (ECFMG). He then worked as a researcher in the Laboratory for Experimental Orthopedics at Radboud university medical center. In 1994 he was awarded his PhD for research into revision surgery on failed hip prostheses.
From 1990 until 1996 he followed the training for Orthopedic Surgeon and the Orthopedic course at Radboud university medical center. Since then he has been staff member of Radboud university medical center’s Department of Orthopedics.
