During the annual CaRe days all four institutes, Caphri, Nivel, APH and RIHS, are asked to nominate 3 of that’s year best dissertations. The jury, the four members of the board of governors, score and discuss these dissertations to award one of them with the CaRe dissertation award.

This year the CaRe Award goes to Aukelien Scheffelaar, former RIHS and NIVEL PhD candidate with her thesis 'About the client perspective. A participatory study evaluating the quality of long-term care relationships.'

The quality of care relationships in long-term care has a major influence on the quality of care for clients. Research shows that the experiences of clients with care relationships can be visualized with two newly developed qualitative measuring instruments: 'Wiek interview' and 'Listen to my story'. What is unique is that clients themselves have a central active role in the use of both instruments. On 20 January 2020, researcher Aukelien Scheffelaar received her PhD at Radboud University in Nijmegen.
