About the procedure

There is a very small chance (less than 1%) of the contrast fluid leaking out of the vein. If this leads to swelling, a numb feeling or pain, you can contact the Department of Radiology.

What to do

If the contrast solution has leaked out of your vein, the radiologist will first assess the severity of the leak and discuss what to do next.

Contacting the department

In some cases, you may need to contact the Department of Radiology. If you notice any of the following symptoms, please contact the Radiology Helpdesk:
  • skin discolouration (darker areas)
  • worsening pain or numbness
  • reduced ability to move the arm
Call (024) 361 45 29. The Helpdesk will connect you to a doctor at the Department of Radiology. Outside office hours, call (024) 361 41 83 and ask for the on-duty radiologist. In both cases, mention that you are experiencing symptoms caused by leaking contrast fluid following a CT scan.
