Research News Radboudumc Prevention Symposium recap

11 November 2025

On 6 November, the second edition of the Radboudumc Prevention Symposium was held in the Experience Center. During lunch, PhD candidates,  associated with the Prevention PhD Network, presented their work to an audience of fellow PhD candidates, the prevention research community at large as well as experts and policy makers from Care and Education within the Radboudumc. Representatives from the HAN, Radboud University and from Nijmegen municipality were also present, as Prevention is a large and highly interconnected theme, crossing domains and institutions.

The symposium was opened by Guillén Fernandez, scientific director of the Research Institute for Medical Innovation (RIMI) and Pim Assendelft, professor of Prevention in Healthcare. The theme of the symposium this year was 'Towards Implementation'. Speakers Tijn Kool (Radboudumc), Jonas Rosenstok (Radboudumc) and Ardine de Wit (RIVM) shared their expertise on this important subject and engaged with the audience in a fruitful discussion. From their perspectives, they shared academic insights, experience-based insights and national policy regarding implemenation. During the several networking moments in the program, many fruitful discussions advanced the researchers' understanding on what implementation actually is, and when to start thinking about it (as soon as possible).

At the end of the symposium, the prestigious annual Prevention Prize for the best presentation (judged by experts) was awarded to Birgit Janssen for her research on the newly established Lifestyle Front Office. Her study uses educational design research to uncover which design principles and learning environment factors make the Lifestyle Front Office an effective workplace learning arrangement for interprofessional preventive care. The insights are expected to help optimize this workplace learning concept and support preventive care implementation in other medical curricula.
