Are you a PhD candidate at Radboudumc with an interest in writing, science communication, or storytelling? Then this may be a great opportunity for you.
The Radboudumc Research Institute is looking for three new PhD candidates to join its PhD editorial team as PhD editors. In this role, you will help translate research into accessible and engaging stories for a broad internal and external audience. You may write news articles, interviews, blogs, and event reports about our research, researchers, and initiatives. These stories are published on the Radboudumc website, in the Research newsletter, and, where relevant, on LinkedIn via Radboudumc Research.
More into video or social content than long-form writing? There is also room for short vlogs and other creative formats.
What does the role involve?
As a PhD editor, you become part of the Research Institute’s editorial and communications team and contribute to a growing PhD editorial program. You will gain hands-on experience in science communication while also developing more journalistic skills, such as identifying news angles, conducting interviews, asking sharp follow-up questions, and writing clear, engaging stories for different audiences and channels.
Depending on your interests and availability, you may contribute to:
- research news and feature stories
- interviews with researchers
- blog posts and event reports
- short video or social content
What are we looking for?
We are looking for curious and motivated PhD candidates in their 2nd or 3rd year, who enjoy communicating about science and making research accessible to others. Prior experience with writing is a plus, but not a requirement.
Time commitment
The average time commitment is around 4 hours per month, depending on your motivation and the type of content you choose to create.
What’s in it for you?
- experience in writing and science communication
- the opportunity to build a network across Radboudumc
- insight into research beyond your own department or field
- the chance to be part of a small and motivated PhD editorial team
- editorial guidance and opportunities to further develop your communication skills
- where possible, the option to follow communication-related training or courses
Please note that this is not a paid position.
Interested?
We would love to hear from you. If you are interested in joining the PhD editorial team as a PhD editor, please send a short email expressing your interest to Hasan Erkan via postbus Editors Research. We will then get in touch.
