Research News From lab to city: explore brain research at the Latin School

1 July 2025

Tucked away in the historic Latin School, just across from St. Stephen’s Church and steps from the Grote Markt, the Donders Brain Museum invites visitors to explore the wonders of the human brain—and the science that helps us understand it. An initiative of the Donders Institute, the museum makes complex neuroscience accessible through interactive exhibits, brain models, and short videos. Researchers are regularly present to welcome the public, answer questions, and share their knowledge in a personal and engaging way.

The museum is part of a broader effort to bring science closer to society. That mission resonates deeply with the Latin School’s long educational tradition. This striking building, once a cornerstone of public education in Nijmegen, had lost its function in recent years. In 2023, to mark Radboud University’s 100th anniversary, the City of Nijmegen gifted the building to the university. Since then, it has been given a new role as a space for public knowledge sharing—“to spark curiosity about science,” in the words of the city.

Entrance to the Brain Museum is free of charge and welcomes both individual visitors and school or group visits. For (practical) details, including current opening hours, please visit the website: ru.nl/donders/brein-museum.
