With qualitative research, you try to understand how people understand and make meaning of their experiences and the world they live in. It is not about mapping numbers and effects, but rather exploring “what”, “how” or “why".
In doing so, research focuses on phenomena in their natural environment. Examples include studying the impact that receiving a diagnosis of dementia has on an elderly person and their family, exploring problems of transfer between primary and secondary care, and exploring what 'quality of life' means for children with chronic conditions.
The methodological requirements for conducting and analyzing qualitative research require specific expertise and skills. In this 2-day introductory course, you will be guided through the various steps of a qualitative study: from formulating a question statement to choosing a method, collecting and analyzing data (focusing on interviewing as a data collection method), and reporting the findings. The program is interactive and there is ample attention to questions and challenges in current research from course participants.
