Job description

Over the past decade, the amount of digital information has exploded, also within healthcare. This data offers tremendous opportunities for research and innovation. Initiatives such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and Health-RI focus on (inter)national collaboration between diverse data sources. Solid Research Data Management (RDM) is the basis for this. To better support and guide researchers, we are looking for a data steward. Do you believe in the power of data-driven healthcare? Are you an enthusiastic professional who enjoys promoting FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), modelling data, and supporting researchers? Then we are looking for you!

As a data steward within the RTC-DS, you are the expert in data for scientific research and serve as a point of contact for researchers from various departments within Radboudumc and regional partners. You also support local data stewards located within these departments or regional partners. The ideal candidate has knowledge of (and experience with) the FAIR principles, RDM requirements, and semantic interoperability.

Within Radboudumc, the RTC-DS plays a leading role in developing and promoting RDM and FAIR policies (including for local data stewards).

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensuring the visibility and adoption of FAIR RDM (together with your colleagues).
  • Developing and promoting RDM policies and FAIR processes.
  • Semantic modelling of data, with a focus on clinical routine-care data.
  • Supporting and training local data stewards within Radboudumc and regional partners.
  • Drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and manuals.
  • Participating in national initiatives such as the Digital Competence Center for Life Sciences and Health and Health-RI.
  • Contributing to the registration of datasets and clinical data in the Radboud Data Repository and the National Health Data Catalogue.
  • Supporting researchers with their Data Management Plans (DMPs).
  • Developing training materials on RDM, FAIR principles, tooling, applications, and infrastructure, and delivering these within the organization (e.g., through teaching sessions).

The Information Management department aims to lead the way in creating an effective and secure ICT environment for both patients and colleagues. We provide state-of-the-art ICT solutions for research, education, and operations, in a landscape where boundaries and frameworks are constantly evolving. Together with engaged and creative colleagues, we strive to make a meaningful contribution to society. Our people know what is expected of them and have the drive and courage to fulfil their responsibilities while maintaining room for individual creativity. We are proud to be part of Information Management.

A well-functioning Information Management department is vital for the care, research, education, and operational processes within Radboudumc, contributing significantly to the organization’s  goals. To provide our diverse clients and stakeholders with the best services and flexibility, we work according to the Agile-Scrum methodology.

You will work within the Radboud Technology Center – Data Stewardship (RTC-DS). This RTC is part of the Research team within the Information Management department. The RTC-DS consists of 14 professionals with various areas of expertise, including data stewards, application specialists, and data engineers/scientific programmers. Together, we facilitate the development, management, and support of central research applications and infrastructure related to Research Data Management (RDM). We are also jointly responsible for policy development in this domain. The data stewards form a sub-team that works closely together to implement FAIR RDM within Radboudumc and, with your contribution, also in the region.

On Fridays, you will also join the FAIR data steward team within the Medical BioSciences (MBS) department: an active group of data stewards focused on the reuse of data, tools, and services, translating the FAIR data principles into practice. The group contributes to various national and international initiatives in data sharing and FAIR data infrastructure development, such as Health-RI and the European Rare Disease Research Alliance (ERDERA).
