About Andre Verbeek

Professor André Verbeek is responsible for a team of epidemiologists at the department for Health Evidence, Radboud university medical center, the Netherlands. He is Member of the Netherlands Health Council and Principal Supervisor at the Netherlands Epidemiologic Society.

His interest in epidemiologic methods was awakened during his internships in Physiology and Human Nutrition when qualifying as a medical doctor. He was awarded his Ph.D. for work on the mortality reduction through mammographic screening for breast cancer in the city of Nijmegen.

Later, he joined the staff of the department of Social Medicine, where, as Senior Lecturer, he was responsible for teaching epidemiology to medical students and physicians specialising in community medicine and sports medicine.

In 1992, he was appointed Full Professor in Clinical Epidemiology at the Radboud university medical center. There, he holds the titles of Principal Investigator for his work on breast cancer screening and applied medical research among which cancer follow-up guidelines and of Junior Principal Lecturer for his teaching efforts in clinical epidemiology and medical statistics. He is currently working on a new book 'Dealing with Disease Probability', and conducting research in the field of body shape indexes, human movement and sport activities.
