Clear steps in your career Scientific Career Path and Talent Track

Based on our societal mission, we have the task of stimulating and strengthening the connection between our three core tasks to achieve a significant impact on healthcare. This requires an academic mindset from every Radboudumc professional in everything we do.

Scientific Career Path

Within the Radboudumc we are working on a change in the way we recognize and reward the work of our employees. The aim is to transition to a future-proof and clear profile of the academic employee, where emphasis can be put on one of the three core functions: academic clinician, academic teacher and academic researcher. In line with the Recognition and Rewards initiative, we are in the process of developing academic career paths for our three core tasks.

The first path has been developed and approved for research: the Scientific Career Path. The other Academic career paths with an Education or Academic Healthcare profile are in development and will be implemented in 2024.

Career pahts for research profile

With the Scientific Career Path, we are preparing ourselves for the future of science in which we do justice to the high quality of our academic work in all of our core tasks. In which we take into account different career stages: from PhDs and postdocs to senior researchers and professors. And in which we provide clarity to our researchers about their careers and the support we offer them and their supervisors. (text continues after image)

If we zoom in on the career paths for research profile, that we establish as part of the Scientific Career Path after the postdoc period, we distinguish two directions within the Radboudumc and one direction outside the Radboudumc:

  • Career direction towards research leader: scientists with strong academic ambition and potential, who match the goals of our organization can be offered a clear career perspective through a tenure or career track to grow into a leadership role within academia.
  • Career direction towards staff scientist: to bundle and secure knowledge and expertise and to facilitate more continuity in research groups, a new role has been introduced; the staff scientist.
  • Career direction to the private or public sector: expertise and skills of PhD scientists are of great value to society. By offering career guidance and providing insight into their motives and using our broad network, we support our researchers in taking a step outside academia.
