Agenda Research Integrity Round #23

10 September 2025

Can you truly do research with integrity if you don’t feel free to question whether someone belongs as a co-author? If giving honest feedback to a supervisor feels unsafe? Probably not. Research integrity depends on psychological safety. You can’t have one without the other.

Tackling inappropriate conduct in the workplace and addressing dubious research practices is essential for creating a psychologically safe, inclusive environment where research integrity can flourish. Studies indicate, however, that a significant portion of employees and students still experiences exclusionary behavior in the workplace, which contributes to e.g. increased stress and higher turnover rates. While discrimination, harassment, bullying, falsificating and falsifying data are clear issues, navigating the “grey areas” - like uncomfortable jokes and questionable research practices - can be tricky.

For this Research Integrity Round we invited trainer-comedians Adam Fields and Juanita Coble with their interactive workshop "You Can't Say That!", which is designed to inspire laughter, learning, and meaningful discussions about developing a safer, more inclusive workplace, where one can openly address questions and doubts about integrity issues without fear or reserve.

Different issues will be adressed through humor and open discussion. Using a combination of comedy, improv, and expert insights, the session helps teams:

  • Explore the importance of social safety and inclusion
  • Identify inappropriate conduct, including micro aggressions
  • Understand personal boundaries and bounderies related to research integrity
  • Learn how to be an active bystander at the academic work floor
  • Foster open communication, constructive feedback and mutual respect.
