A Promotion Scholarship has been awarded to 23 teachers who wish to conduct doctoral research this year. Three of these doctoral studies will take place at the Radboudumc and Radboud University.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science makes 9 million euros available annually for the Promotion Scholarships. In this round, over 4.6 million euros have now been allocated. Teachers get the chance to further develop and strengthen the connection between universities and schools through this scholarship. After five years of research, the efforts should eventually lead to a PhD.
The honored projects include research on math anxiety and self-directed learning, the role of online bullying in adolescent suicide and witness protection units of international courts. Of the 23 doctoral studies, the three projects below are being conducted at Radboudumc and Radboud University:
More flexibility, less pain? A study of the importance of various forms of psychological flexibility in chronic pain
Ivo Legierse, Fontys University of Applied Sciences - Radboudumc
Chronic pain has a major impact on society, healthcare (costs) and quality of life of patients. After years of focus on medicalization and specific personal characteristics that play a role in the development and maintenance of chronic pain, the focus is shifting towards demedicalization and prevention with special attention to the dynamic and continuous adaptability of a patient to stay as healthy as possible. Psychological flexibility may have an important protective effect in this regard. However, more knowledge and research is needed on the role of different forms of psychological flexibility in recovery and experiencing optimal health despite chronic pain.
Patient Reported Outcome Measures in psychomotor therapy.
Albertine de Haan, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences - Radboud University
To demonstrate that psychomotor therapy (PMT) has positive treatment effects, questionnaires (Patient Reported Outcome Measures; PROMs) can be used that are completed by the patient. The outcomes of the questionnaires can also be used to track the individual patient's progress in PMT.
The purpose of this study is to develop a set of PROMs so that scientific evidence for PMT can be collected and individual patient progress can be tracked. In addition, the implementation of PROMs and the use of PROMs in psychomotor practice are discussed.
Literary criticism in a digital age: reviews of original Dutch-language literary novels from 2011-2020
Dirk Hage, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences - Radboud University
Literary criticism has traditionally been a gatekeeper: it plays a crucial role in assigning value to literary works. The ubiquitous digitization in the 21st century has dramatically changed its reach and functioning. This study focuses on the reception of original Dutch-language literary novels published from 2011-2020 by leading publishers. Both traditional paper literary criticism in the daily and weekly press and literary criticism on "serious" review websites and that on reader communities are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.
