Anique ter Braake from the department of Physiology was awarded the first prize for best abstract and oral presentation. Anique presented her abstract entitled “Magnesium prevents vascular calcification by inhibition of hydroxyapatite crystal formation”, which potentially provides an explanation for the associations found between serum magnesium levels and incidence of cardiovascular events in chronic kidney disease patients.

On Friday the 13th of October, the annual Dutch Federation for Nephrology Fall symposiym was organized in Bunnik, Utrecht.
In addition to two invited lectures by Dr. Martin de Borst (FGF-23 and beyond) and Prof. Dr. Roos Masereeuw (bio-enigineering and the bio-artificial kidney), abstracts submitted by junior researchers were presented.Anique ter Braake from the department of Physiology was awarded the first prize for best abstract and oral presentation.
