The fourth edition of InScience is dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and the consequences of it on our society. The best science films that have been released worldwide last year are the focus of the program. InScience is a unique festival in the Netherlands. InScience, International Science Film Festival, takes place from 7 till 11 November in Nijmegen.

Artificial Intelligence

Many scientists consider it as the most important discussion of our time: the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Although they agree on the fact that it is an important discussion, there is a wide range of opinions. Not only they disagree about what the possibilites are in the future, also they differ in the appreciation of artificial intelligence. The division in opinions about the developments around AI will increase more and more in the future. Especially about the perspective of a Artifical General Intelligence (AGI): an intelligence that could equal or even could surpass human intelligence. InScience shows the discussion around the developments and zooms in on the possibilities, the dangers and dilemma's of this exponential developing technology.

Program InScience 2018

InScience shows the best science films that have been released worldwide this year, international top scientists share their newest insights and an extensive education program encourages students to see the difference between fact and fiction.
Present at the festival will be Philipp Blom (historian and philosopher) about the consequences of artifical intelligence and climate change on our democratic society, Max Welling (UvA) about the power of selflearning systems in combination with data processing and Pim Haselager (Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour) about robotica and ethical dilemma's.

Competition program

The best films from the main program of InScience are competing for the NTR Audience Award. The full program will be announced in October. InScience also has a Student Award. The awards will be reached out during the award show on the last day of the festival.

Education program

InScience selects special science films and creates learning material for primary and secundary education. During the special junior opening of the festival the Klokhuis Science Award will be reached out.
