KWF grant proposals

Time schedule

Because of the tight time schedule any project application received after the internal deadlines will not be processed, but automatically postponed to the next round. To value the work of internal reviewers, any incomplete project applications will be postponed as well.

• 8 weeks before the deadline

  Registration of the new application by sending a summary of the project to the secretary of the internal KWF-committee (via Info-GrantSupportOffice@radboudumc.nl ). The summary must contain:

  • the title of the project
  • the summary
  • the name(s) and affiliations of the principal investigator(s)
  • KWF category
  • KWF type of project
  • KWF Focus area
  • In addition the applicant provides the names of 2 internal reviewers who have committed to review their proposal! (please send the conformation e-mail to the KWF secretary).

• 5 weeks before the deadline

  Submission of the KWF ‘first draft’ version of the full application by sending e-mail to the internal KWF secretary via Info-GrantSupportOffice@radboudumc.nl Clearly incomplete applications will be  postponed to the next KWF round!

  NOTE: Please use the newest format of KWF application (available at KWF website)

• 3 weeks before the deadline

  The applicant receives the written comments/suggestions of the internal reviewers from the internal KWF committee via Info-GrantSupportOffice@radboudumc.nl) and prepare the full proposal and the point-to-point replies.

• 2 weeks before the deadline

  Submission of the adapted full application based on the comments/suggestions of the reviewers and the point-to-point reply by the applicant to the internal KWF committee (via Info-GrantSupportOffice@radboudumc.nl ).

  NOTE: Clearly incomplete applications will be  postponed to the next round!

• 1 week before the deadline

  Meeting of the internal KWF committee members and the final advice to the applicant

Preparing and submitting your application

• Submission takes place through Grant Management System.
• KWF-GMS does not work in Explorer, choose another browser like Google Chrome!
• Be aware, you need to upload your profile ahead, the system performs the "Eligibility Quiz" to advise the project proposal types you may apply for.

KWF call Proof of Concept

KWF wants to use the Proof of Concept (PoC) program to give an impulse to impactful inventions so that they reach patients faster. The focus of the program is on mapping out the route towards (clinical) application. The PoC application must be related to a current KWF project (up to a maximum of 6 months after completion). Eligible are KWF projects with promising results where at least initial validation has already taken place. The invention is at a stage where steps need to be taken towards a concrete product or application etc. So there is a view of a concrete application, but the route is not yet (fully) in view. KWF call Implementation research for cancer prevention in Europe

UICC launches a call for grant applications to support implementation research projects for cancer prevention in Europe. Grants of up to 500,000 Euros will be made available for implementation research projects of up to two years in length. Projects supported must be collaborative in nature, including researchers and principal investigators from more than one EU Member State or associated country, with at least one of the countries involved to be the Netherlands, Sweden or Denmark. The grants will support research into the effective implementation of evidence-based interventions for cancer prevention in Europe, in alignment with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and Europe’s Mission on Cancer. KWF Themacall Advancement of Biomarkers to Daily Practice

To validate (combinations of) already discovered, promising biomarkers that correlate with patient relevant outcomes or treatment responses and that can be used in daily clinical practice in the near future. Therefore, efforts are needed to set up collaborative, multidisciplinary studies with special attention to (combinations of) biomarkers that are potential candidates for clinical implementation. The focus of this call is to bring together the necessary expertise in the field of biomarker research and clinical care to reach the next developmental phase of the biomarker candidate(s) on their way to daily practice and to provide the appropriate framework and funding. KWF Themacall Palliative Care

Within the Palliative Care research track, KWF is launching a theme call to encourage research that contributes to an inclusive palliative care environment, where every patient, regardless of cultural, religious or social background, receives respectful and high-quality care. KWF invites researchers to contribute to increasing understanding of the sociocultural factors that affect access, quality and experience of palliative care for diverse patient groups, and to develop innovative solutions that can remove these barriers so that everyone receives appropriate palliative care. KWF call Long-term programme biomarkers

The long-term Biomarkers program is designed to successfully bring promising biomarker(s) that have already shown good validation to practice. The approach is to continue to support the project until the biomarker is implemented on a national scale. This goal should be achieved in the shortest but realistic time frame possible. The application process begins with completing a checklist. This is followed by a preliminary application and the full application. More information can be found here.

KWF call Pharmaceutical product development from innovative academic research (pipeline)

New, innovative drugs are needed for better cancer treatment. However, the route to bring promising experimental drugs from academic research into daily clinical practice is fraught with bottlenecks. To drive the further development of academic innovations, KWF is opening the call PIPELINE. We hereby invite the oncology field (academics, whether or not in collaboration with industry) to develop promising experimental drugs towards clinical practice. KWF Themacall Smart Measurement Technology

Technology (SMT) for oncologic patient care’ 2024 to catch up with the rapidly developing health care field. Following two successful rounds, KWF has adjusted their ambitions and criteria for this, most likely final, smart measurement technology related call. The aim of this call is to stimulate the further development of smart measurement technology to provide (early) diagnosis and monitoring of oncological patients in a minimally invasive manner and closer to home.
