EDPs in Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan we have been working with the Ministry of Health on employing EDPs to determine the State Guaranteed Benefit Package (SGBP) and the package of the Mandatory Social Health Insurance (MSHI), using HTA. The activities involved:

  • Undertaking a situational analysis based on desk research and surveying key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Republican Center for Health Development and the Social Health Insurance Fund;
  • Formation of an advisory committee under the leadership of the Ministry of Health;
  • Definition of a relevant set of criteria for priority setting based on surveying of and a workshop with the advisory committee;
  • Selection and assessment of 25 interventions according to international standards;
  • Appraisal of the 25 interventions using quantitative MCDA and decision rules; and
  • Development of an implementation plan and M&E framework.

Addiction psychiatry

Arnt Schellekens's research group aims to reduce the tremendous burden of addictive disorders through translational research, linking basic science with clinical practice. The group focuses on disentangling clinical heterogeneity, in order to develop personalized addiction treatment strategies.

Advanced x-ray imaging methods

Ioannis Sechopoulos's research group specializes in research on novel image acquisition, processing and analysis in diagnostic x-ray based imaging, particularly for breast and body computed tomography.

Affordability and accessibility of care

Bram Wouterse's research group investigates how to make health care systems sustainable, from a financial, work force, societal, and environmental perspective. We do so in collaboration with policymakers and by combining evidence at the individual and local level.

AI for precision medicine

Francesco Ciompi's research group focuses on precision medicine, investigating and developing artificial intelligence models to better understand diseases, discover novel biomarkers, and help physicians to improve their routine diagnostics and select the right treatments to help patients.

AI in thoracic oncology

Colin Jacobs's research group investigates how to develop robust and trustworthy artificial intelligence algorithms for medical imaging in the field of lung cancer, how to validate these algorithms in clinical practice, and how we can have the most impact with AI in healthcare.
