Much of our work focuses on the affective and decision functions of the ascending neuromodulators, of dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline, which we have established depend critically on current task context, and associated brain circuits. To study these functions, we integrate cognitive, clinical, and computational neuroscience and combine neuroimaging, pharmacology, and brain stimulation in healthy people and people with brain disorders like Parkinson’s disease and major depressive disorder. The work has implications for understanding the mechanistic basis and predicting treatment effects in a variety of mental health conditions.
