Fase 2 (2027 to 2029)

In this phase, the developed infrastructure will be implemented within the ICT service departments, which will be responsible for its management and long-term maintenance. In parallel with the implementation, the associated support structure will be established.

About the program

Radboud Healthy Data is a joint initiative of Radboudumc and Radboud University. The goal is to create an integrated data and AI infrastructure to enable (re)use of research data and facilitate AI research. The program started in 2023 and will run through the end of 2029.

About the program

Radboud Healthy Data is a joint initiative of Radboudumc and Radboud University. The program was established to address challenges related to the (re)use of data and AI. It focuses on developing solutions for all involved stakeholders, including data users, data holders, and ICT service departments. A key characteristic of Radboud Healthy Data is the multidisciplinary collaboration between faculties and supporting departments across the campus. The program started in 2023 and will run through the end of 2029.

In its first year, the program focused intensively on mapping the current situation on campus, the desired state, the challenges to get there and possible solutions. This analysis showed that many solutions currently emerge at the individual project level, often within temporary projects. These solutions are typically developed for a single project and do not sufficiently align with broader campus needs. As a result, ICT service departments have limited ability to integrate these project-based solutions or further develop them into generic and sustainable data and AI infrastructure. For researchers, this means that there is currently no clear and coherent campus-wide structure to support the (re)use of research data.

Focus of the program

Therefore, there is a clear need for a more integrated and structured approach to infrastructure development. The goal is to create an integrated data & AI infrastructure to enable (re)use of research data and facilitate AI research. The focus of the program is therefore on realizing an integrated infrastructure for the (re)use of data and AI methods in support of research.

    Fase 1 (2025 to 2027)

During this phase, various components of the infrastructure will be developed in close collaboration with Information Management (IM)Information & Library Services (ILS), and relevant external partners. For each individual component, an assessment will be made as to whether new development is required or whether a suitable existing solution is already available and can be implemented.

Infrastructure Radboud Healthy Data Portal

As part of the program, the Radboud Healthy Data Portal is being developed. This portal brings together data holders and data users and supports the process of secure access to (sensitive) research data.

Infrastructure Radboud Healthy Data Portal

As part of the program, the Radboud Healthy Data Portal is being developed. This portal brings together data holders and data users and supports the process of secure access to (sensitive) research data. The data access request process is facilitated step by step. Time-consuming tasks such as data minimization, access management, and legal documentation are made easier, faster, and partially automated.

The software is being developed as an initial version with a minimal set of functionalities. This version will be tested by both data holders and data users. Based on feedback, the platform will be further improved through short, iterative development cycles, allowing for continuous adjustment. This process takes place in close collaboration with users and other relevant stakeholders.

During the development phase of the infrastructure, a selected group of researchers will be actively involved. For other researchers, this phase will not yet affect existing workflows. Only during the implementation phase will it become clear how the infrastructure will be implemented and what this will mean for individual staff members. If the implementation has implications for specific groups or activities, this will be communicated in a timely and careful manner with the parties involved.
