Internal quality assurance in core curriculum

The ‘internal quality assurance’ comes about as follows:

During the curriculum

During the curriculum, the year representatives (appointed by SOOS, the Student Organization for Education and Study), maintain a regular and extensive contact with the curriculum coordinator, to discuss the course of events.

Panel

After every curriculum, all students are expected to fill in a questionnaire and give their opinion about the structure of the curriculum, the teachers, the curriculum book, the instructiveness of the curriculum etc. The results of this survey are discussed and reviewed by a panel existing of five students, together with the curriculum cordinator and under the chairmanship of the Education Management Team (OMT).

The year representatives make sure students attend the panel, in which all kinds of concerns (substantive and logistic) can come up. For students, this is moment provides an important opportunity to communicate views on education.

Evaluation report

The curriculum committee provides an evaluation report, wherein educational and organisational issues are covered. Besides, the committee elaborates on the students’ comments.

The committee’s report is then discussed in a Education Management Team (OMT) meeting, together with the results of the questionnaire and the panel report. If necessary, an additional interview between the OMT and the curriculum coordinator takes place.

Education Management Team (OMT)

The Education Management Team reports on all findings and makes – if required – a proposal for curricular improvements or adjustments. Every year, a report on quality assurance is drawn up by the Education Management Team.

Study programma committee

The Biomedical Sciences’ Study program committee discusses the curriculum evaluations and safeguards the quality of the evaluation cycle as a whole.

The ‘internal quality assurance’ comes about as follows:

During the curriculum

During the curriculum, the curriculum coordinator and the students maintain a regular and extensive contact, to discuss the course of events.

Questionnaire

After every curriculum, preferably after the test, all students are expected to fill in a questionnaire and give their opinion about the structure of the curriculum, the teachers, the curriculum book, the instructiveness of the curriculum etc.

The analysis of the students’ answers to this survey is sent to the curriculum coordinator one week upon receipt.

Evaluation interview curriculum coordinator

At the end of the curriculum, an evaluation interview takes place between the curriculum coordinator and (some of) the students, following a fixed agenda. One of the students makes a report of this discussion, which is attached to the evaluation report of the curriculum committee by the curriculum coordinator.

Evaluation report curriculum committee

The curriculum committee provides an evaluation report, wherein educational and organisational issues are covered. Besides, the committee elaborates on the students’ comments.

This report is sent to the KeuzeFaseCommissie (KFC) togther with the results of the questionnaire and the evaluation interview report.

Pre-advies

A member of the curriculum committee provides a preliminary advice based on these documents and the curriculum evaluation of the preceding year, which becomes an agenda item for the committee.

The curriculum committee receives the preliminary advice from the KFC, possibly provided with additional comments. If required, an extra interview is planned to discuss the evaluation results with the curriculum coordinator.

Annual report

Every year, a report about the evaluation of the open curricula is made on behalf of the education committee.

External quality assurance

External quality assurance

The external quality control takes place every six years. The faculty writes a so-called ‘self-study’ per study program. Subsequently, all medical faculties are visited by a national review committee, which evaluates the quality of education.

Visitations

Our study programs are assessed in terms of quality every six or seven years by a review committee consisting of professionals. In preparation of this, the faculty writes a ‘Critical Reflection’ (or self-study). read more
