Beyond the scientist: Jurgen Fütterer

Where and when were you born?

Oosterhout in North Brabant close to Breda (and not next to Nijmegen). I was born on the first Wednesday of March in 1975.

Where do you live and with whom?

In Beuningen, close to Nijmegen, with my wife and two children.

Who was your role model when you were a kid?

That is a difficult question. When I was a kid I did not have anybody specific. As a teenager, it was my chemistry teacher who almost pushed me to the direction of chemistry. I admire persons who are passionate about their life and work.

Why aren’t you doing the same thing now as your role model (or do you?)

I visited several universities and explored several study possibilities. The main reason for studying medicine was due to my interest in the biology of the human body.

What is the thing in your (work or other) history that you are most proud of?

Tough question. I am proud of several things in my work. I am really proud of my PhD students who defend their thesis after a long journey with all the ups and downs.

What is it that you would like to achieve in work in the next 5 to 10 years?

My main ambition is to implement innovative minimal invasive image-guided interventions in oncology.

For what can we wake you up?

Steak.

What is your hobby and how good are you at it?

I like to work in my garden, it is a way of relaxing. In the season I cycle with friends for fun.

What is your biggest irritation?

Big ego.

Who would you like to invite for dinner, if you had the chance?

Julia Roberts
