Structural bioinformatics validating, improving and interpretating protein structures
This research group uses the information obtained from 3D-protein structures and homology models to answer (bio) medical questions. To do so, they work on the validation, improvement, and interpretation of protein structures.read more
Structural bioinformatics validating, improving and interpretating protein structuresThe 3D-conformation of proteins hold a wealth of information that can be beneficial for (bio)medical research. In our group, we work on the analysis and interpretation of these proteins structures. We study the structures of proteins in order to understand their function and the effect of mutations. Where necessary we can build homology models for non-existing structures and use other predictive techniques. We work closely in collaboration with (bio)medical researchers in order to understand the molecular basics of life.
Aims of this research groupThis research group aims:
- to understand molecular mechanisms of health and disease;
- to collect and combine structural data to predict new information;
- to use this knowledge/data in collaborative projects;
- to teach Structural Bioinformatics to students in the fields of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences.
